MITHR The Real Time Controllable Self Reconfigurable Multipurpose Amphibious Robot is the first of its kind developed anywhere in the world. The team who made this a reality are a group of students from College Of Engineering Kidangoor, Kerala. Monu V Cherian, Raj Philip, Lizjo John and Ajith G the final year students of Electronics and Communication branch in CEK has done this as part of their curriculum main project.
It is, as its predecessor, a mechatronic device that can be controlled using a computer. The latest feature of this robot is that it can be controlled by voice. The voice recognition module built into the robot can understand commands issued by the controller and act accordingly. MITHR is a self reconfigurable robot that can travel both on land and water. MITHR adapts itself for changes in the environment. A video camera acts as the eye of the robot which can be used by the operator to view the surroundings. An extensible arm which can rotate upto 270 degrees can pick up and store objects encountered along the path if necessary. The arm has a water spraying system which can be used for extinguishing fires. MITHR can also read lines of text fed to its brain from the computer for which it uses a custom self made speech synthesizer, the text is also displayed on the LCD monitor attached to the robot. The robot can measure the temperature, light and water level of the places it travel.
MITHR can be controlled by any of the three methods - using a remote control, using a PC or by using the built in Voice recognition.
